ASIMCO Camshaft Attends Foton Cummins’ First Lean Forum

From July 19 to 21, 2017, the first “Lean Forum” was held in Jiaozuo, Henan Province, hosted by Beijing Foton Cummins and co-organized by Zhongyuan Internal Combustion Engine Group. Chen Aiguo, the company’s general manager, led a delegation to attend the forum. For this Lean Forum, Foton Cummins invited more than 20 outstanding domestic suppliers, including ASIMCO, Toyota, and Bosch, to share their recently completed or ongoing exemplary lean improvement cases. Foton Cummins attached great importance to the event; Executive Vice President Dai Songgao, the Procurement Director, the Production Director, and other leaders attended the entire program and provided feedback on each presentation, with the aim of building a lean supply chain. After all, suppliers are a valuable asset for the long-term operation of an enterprise and act as external partners—sharing information and jointly bearing risks and benefits, so that they prosper together and suffer together.
Our company published the “ISG Camshaft Machining Production Line Efficiency Improvement Project” on the forum. The project featured a clear implementation plan and remarkable results, earning widespread recognition and praise, ultimately winning the “Excellent Project Award.” The ISG production line is primarily dedicated to manufacturing Camshafts for Foton ISG series engines. Previously, annual output stood at 60,000 units; following improvements in process takt time, process optimization, quality enhancement, and automation, annual output has increased to 90,000 units. The improvement process employed lean manufacturing tools and methodologies such as value stream mapping, process balancing analysis, human–machine balance analysis, takt time analysis, and Six Sigma.
“Quality is the bottom line for a company’s survival, and efficiency is the prerequisite for its production.” This is the fundamental guiding principle for corporate management put forward by President Chen. Lean improvement will also remain an enduring focus for the company; through continuous, sustained enhancement, we will undoubtedly strengthen our competitive edge, share the resulting benefits with our customers, and continually create value for them.
