ASIMCO Camshaft Holds the Closing Report Meeting for the 2017 5S Transformation Initiative

On the morning of March 10, the 2017 5S Transformation Closure Report was held in Conference Room 205 of the company. The event was attended by company leaders, all middle-level managers, workshop-level supervisors, and consultants from the consulting firm.
At the reporting meeting, the Secretary-General of the Change Committee presented an overview of the work accomplished and the achievements attained over the past six months. Meanwhile, representatives from the consulting firm identified areas for improvement in the change process and outlined clear implementation strategies for the company’s subsequent 5S initiatives. Following an evaluation, the Foundry Workshop was awarded the Outstanding Team Prize, while the Metal Machining, Cleaning, and Packaging Area received the Best Area Award. In addition, awards were presented to outstanding project team leaders, exceptional managers, and exemplary employees. Finally, General Manager Chen Aiguo summed up the purpose of our on-site improvement efforts in a single sentence: “Our ultimate goal is to create a comfortable working environment that employees aspire to.” Here, “comfort” encompasses not only cleanliness and order but also safety, ease, enjoyment, and reduced physical effort.
The company’s 5S transformation was launched in September 2017 and unfolded in three phases over a six-month period. During this initiative, the transformation began with the fundamental tasks of sorting and setting in order, using a model production line as the breakthrough point. Under the guidance of the Transformation Committee, four specialized teams—Standardization, Visual Management, Inspection & Evaluation, and Publicity & Supervision—were established, each with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. Through well-defined operational procedures and targeted improvement strategies, the company ensured the ultimate success of the 5S transformation. Although production remained consistently overcapacity throughout 2017, the company placed great emphasis on and provided strong support for this initiative, with all functional departments making concerted efforts to carve out time to participate. To guarantee the smooth execution of the transformation, a detailed weekly work plan was formulated, with daily monitoring and updates on progress. Weekly inspections and evaluations identified issues for immediate corrective action; small-gift incentives and recognition of outstanding areas and individuals motivated employees to actively engage; knowledge competitions and surveys encouraged full participation across the organization; and the final compilation of 5S standards served to institutionalize and consolidate the improvements achieved.
The improvement ideas and methodologies provided by consulting firms in guiding 5S transformation enable us to implement 5S improvements in a more systematic and professional manner. However, this is by no means the entirety of 5S work; rather, it marks the beginning of continuous, organization-wide improvement. Moving forward, we will focus on sustainably and effectively maintaining 5S as a core pillar of our improvement efforts. We will continually study and draw upon the essence of 5S management principles, tailor these concepts to our company’s specific circumstances, refine our various management systems, explore more practical and down-to-earth working methods, identify new areas of excellence, and truly integrate 5S into our daily production operations.
