Women Are No Less Than Men: Showcasing Excellence in Ordinary Roles — Zhou Luling, Team Leader of the Gold-Processing Finished-Products Section

I remember that in 2017 the company was experiencing record-breaking production and sales, with nearly all of the workshop’s production lines operating at or near full capacity. Products flowed continuously from each line into the finished-goods department, placing immense pressure on the team due to high volume, rapid turnover, and staffing shortages. In March, Zhou Luling, shift supervisor of the metal-processing workshop, was unexpectedly appointed to take over as team leader of the finished-goods department within just two days. The finished-goods team is responsible for inspecting, cleaning, and packaging finished products, while also ensuring seamless coordination with the sales department to support the orderly execution of shipping schedules.
At that time, the workshop had already shifted to a “people stop, machines keep running” mode, with all shifts rotating through scheduled breaks—except for the finished-product team leader, who was on duty alone. To cope with the intense workload of the finished-product team, Team Leader Zhou virtually gave up all his own rest time, meticulously refining the finished-product inspection procedures and closely following the finished-product review process. Whenever a material shortage arose during finished-product inspection, he would immediately report it to the production team leader, using delivery as the central driver to ensure timely completion of workshop production orders. Of course, no one is made of iron; everyone needs rest. To ensure that the finished-product team’s work would not be disrupted by his own breaks, Team Leader Zhou created separate WeChat groups for each refined inspection step—namely, the “Packaging Group,” the “Inspection Group,” and the “Issue-Reporting Group”—to stay abreast of real-time workshop conditions. He also required staff to report any issues promptly, even during night shifts, so that problems could be addressed in real time.
Diligent work is bound to yield substantial rewards. In 2017, the Finished Goods Team’s solid performance earned high praise from both the company and its customers; the company was repeatedly honored with the “Best Delivery Award” by numerous clients. At a time when the national automotive parts industry was grappling with delivery bottlenecks, this award stood as the highest recognition for the Finished Goods Team. Even in 2018, despite the ongoing downturn in the automotive market, the team’s robust fundamentals enabled a 30% reduction in the workshop’s COPQ (Cost of Poor Quality). Beyond improvements in quality throughout the production process, the Finished Goods Team also excelled in 5S implementation and quality management, consistently earning the workshop’s rotating “5S Red Flag” for its exemplary performance.
