We warmly congratulate our company on winning the Second Prize of the Yangzhou Science and Technology Association’s Golden Bridge Project for the 2012–2013 period for our project “Application of Truss-Type Robots for Rough Turning on Line C9.” Our company has the highest employee turnover rate on the upstream section of Line C9, mainly due to the extremely high labor intensity. Currently, one worker operates two machines, each weighing over 30 kilograms, with a total handling load of nearly 10 tons per shift. We have previously used balance hoists, but they suffered from instability, tool collisions, and low efficiency, making operators reluctant to use them. Moreover, the equipment varies in size and shape, so a single balance hoist cannot accommodate multiple machines, resulting in considerable operational inconvenience. The truss-type robot is a fully automated loading and unloading mechanism that completes each cycle in under 10 seconds, requiring no human intervention throughout the process—making it the ideal solution to the staffing challenges in this operation. The widespread adoption of robots in manufacturing is the future trend, and choosing the upstream section of Line C9 for this pilot project is aimed at accumulating experience for the company’s subsequent full-scale rollout. Most truss-type robots currently available are small, with a payload of around 10 kilograms, whereas our company requires a robot that is 16 meters long and can handle a payload of 100 kilograms, posing significant challenges to the robot’s mechanical components. In addition, most robotic control systems on the market are imported from Japan and Germany, making them expensive. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop robots that offer excellent performance-to-price ratios, possess independent intellectual property rights, and are specifically tailored to our needs. Leveraging Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s technological strengths in robotics research, our company has partnered with the university to develop a truss robot at about one-third the cost of comparable imported products, while achieving nearly equivalent operational reliability. The introduction of this robot will significantly reduce workers’ physical exertion, lower the risks associated with heavy lifting, eliminate safety hazards related to such tasks, and mitigate the enterprise’s employment risks. The application of automation is the future trend in mechanical manufacturing, as it can effectively improve working conditions, reduce operating costs, and enhance corporate competitiveness. In March, ASIMCO Camshaft (Yizheng) Co., Ltd. achieved a historic output value exceeding RMB 9.5 million, with per capita annual output approaching RMB 400,000. These remarkable results were attained through optimized human resource management, technological improvements, and continuous equipment upgrades. Moving forward, our company will continue to accelerate its development, comprehensively promoting the application of various suitable robots. As hardware continues to improve, the company’s business performance will undoubtedly maintain steady growth.
We warmly congratulate our company on the award of the Second Prize in the 2012–2013 Yangzhou Science and Technology Association Golden Bridge Project Competition for our project, “Application of Truss-Type Robots for Rough Turning on the C9 Line.”
Our company’s C9 line has the highest employee turnover rate in the upstream process, primarily due to the extremely high labor intensity. Currently, each worker operates two pieces of equipment, with each component weighing over 30 kilograms, resulting in a cumulative handling load of nearly 10 tons per shift. We previously used balance hoists, but they suffered from operational instability, blade collisions, and low efficiency, leading to resistance from operators. Moreover, the equipment varies widely in size and shape, making it impossible for a single balance hoist to accommodate multiple machines, which further complicates operations. In contrast, a gantry-type robotic system is a fully automated loading and unloading mechanism that completes each cycle in under 10 seconds, requiring no human intervention throughout the entire process—making it the ideal solution to the staffing challenges in this operation.
The widespread adoption of robots in manufacturing is the trend of future development, and selecting the front-end section of Line C9 for this pilot project is intended to accumulate valuable experience for the company’s subsequent full-scale rollout. Currently, most truss-type robots on the market are small, with a payload of around 10 kilograms; however, our company requires a robot that is 16 meters long and capable of handling a 100-kilogram payload, which poses significant challenges to the robot’s mechanical design. In addition, the control systems used in most commercially available robots are imported from Japan and Germany, making them expensive. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a robot that offers excellent performance-to-price ratio, possesses independent intellectual property rights, and is specifically tailored to our needs. Leveraging Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s strong technical expertise in robotics research, our company has partnered with the university to co-develop a truss-type robot. The cost of this domestically developed solution is only about one-third of that of comparable imported products, yet its operational reliability is virtually on par. Once put into operation, this robot will significantly reduce workers’ physical workload, lower the risks associated with heavy-lifting tasks, eliminate safety hazards inherent in such work, and mitigate the employment-related risks faced by the enterprise. The application of automation represents the future direction of mechanical manufacturing, as it can effectively improve working conditions, reduce operating costs, and enhance corporate competitiveness.
In March, ASIMCO Camshaft (Yizheng) Co., Ltd. achieved a record-breaking output value of over RMB 9.5 million, with per capita annual output approaching RMB 400,000. These achievements were made possible through human resource optimization, technological improvements, and continuous equipment upgrades. Moving forward, our company will continue to accelerate its development, comprehensively promote the application of various suitable robots, and, as hardware continues to improve, ensure that our business performance steadily and sustainably increases.
